Typhoon Mangkhut, a strong typhoon of level 15, is about to make landfall in Guangdong.

Given the enormous harm it brought, the 39th World Meteorological Organization Typhoon Committee meeting in December 2006 decided to remove the name "Durian" from the list of typhoon names!

However, the Thai people, who have a strong love for fruits, decided to replace Typhoon "Durian" with another fruit, and the replacement name for the typhoon is "Mangkhut".

As the successor of the super typhoon "Durian", "Mangkhut" truly lives up to its predecessor's name. It completed the ultimate evolution as early as 08:00 on September 11th and became a super typhoon!

Here it comes! Super Typhoon "Mangkhut" is about to enter the South China Sea!

At 17:00 on September 14th, it was located in the eastern waters of the Philippines, 1291 kilometers away from our city. The center had wind speeds of 17 or above (65 meters/second, equivalent to 234 kilometers/hour), and the minimum central pressure was 910 hectopascals. It will move at a speed of 30 kilometers/hour towards the northwest.

However, although the super typhoon "Mangkhut" is powerful, it also has opponents.
When it approaches the South China Sea, the huge subtropical high pressure has been waiting here for many days. The super typhoon "Mangkhut" will inevitably have a frontal "confrontation" with the dominant subtropical high pressure along the coast of South China!

It is expected that "Mangkhut" will cross the mountains in the northern part of Luzon, Philippines on the night of the 14th, enter the northeastern part of the South China Sea on the morning of the 15th, weaken in intensity, and move towards the western part of Guangdong and the eastern coast of Hainan. It is expected to make landfall in the aforementioned areas as a strong typhoon or super typhoon on the night of the 16th. It will be closest to our city around noon on the 16th, about 200-300 kilometers away.
It is not ruled out that it may make landfall between Yangjiang and Maoming, causing greater wind and rain impact on Shenzhen.

The Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory has issued a white typhoon warning for the entire city at 12:30 on September 14, 2018. It is expected that "Mangkhut" may affect our city within 48 hours. The whole city has entered a state of typhoon alert and should follow the wind protection instructions or notices from maritime and fishery departments to make preparations for sheltering from the wind.

Wind forecast: The radius of the 7-level wind circle of Typhoon "Mangkhut" will reach about 700 kilometers! Due to the influence of Typhoon "Mangkhut", the wind will gradually increase in the second half of the night on the 15th. On the 16th, the maximum gusts will reach 11-13 levels along the coast and highlands, and 8-11 levels inland. The wind will start to weaken in the second half of the night on the 16th.
